2021 TACERA Conference

The 2021 Annual TACERA Conference will be held November 16 – 18, 2021 at the Hilton College Station Hotel and Conference Center, 801 University Dr. East College Station, Texas.  This conference is being held at a new location but will have a similar format as the last gathering.

The past two years have brought the unknown into each of our every-day lives with the pandemic and lasting effects. I didn’t realize that we would all become significantly more proficient with Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and GoToMeeting in such a short period of time. The Board has been meeting every two months virtually to discuss COVID updates, conference planning, and day-to-day business. During the first few months of 2021, the TACERA Board unanimously agreed to budget for an in-person conference to be held during our normal October timeframe. The Board agreed to wait long enough to see a positive trend with all things COVID related before officially adopting the budget and initiating conference advertising.

In late May, after adopting the 2021 budget, the Board was notified by our Executive Secretary staff that the Wyndham hotel was closing for eighteen months. From late May to today, the TACERA Board has been working diligently to select a hotel / conference location for the October to mid-November timeframe. It is not a quick process to assess room blocks, food and beverage requirements, audio/visual, and meeting space. We typically assign a committee to the task prior to contracts expiring with the hotel for sufficient time to weigh options. That being said, we are hoping to select a location very soon so that we can have our annual conference that we all look forward to every year.

Also, during the month of July, the TACERA Executive Secretary resigned. The TACERA Board is hopeful to have a new Executive Secretary hired by mid-August to help with conference details and answering our emails and phone.

TACERA relies on our members and sponsors to thrive as an association. Thank you for your commitment to our group and to the Counties you serve on a day-to-day basis. I look forward to seeing each of you later this year.

Joseph Jackson, P.E.

TACERA President
